I'm Katy, a South London-based mum who quit a successful career in fashion buying, trained at Leiths (passing with a distinction!) and embarked on a new life in food.
My background in fashion has given me a genuine excitement for colour and an instinct for pattern along with a love for creating something totally unique.
dishdelish combines my creativity and love of colour to create beautiful, relaxed, social feasts that focus on delicious homemade food.
Where I used to be sourcing new fabrics for coats or denim factories I am now sourcing the best flour for my cheddar scones and suppliers for the juiciest grapefruits!
I've always had a love of all things food - cookbooks, magazines, restaurants and foodie city breaks. I naturally cook with more wholesome ingredients as that is the kind of food I enjoy to eat but mixing in a few more indulgent treats along the way!
I have a large and ever expanding cook book collection but those that inspire my menus the most are Nigel Slater, Nigella, Sabrina Ghayour, Gizzi Erskine and Henrietta Inman - bringing together a combination of simple and relaxed cooking, colourful feasts, wholesome ingredients, rich & nostalgic flavours and decadent sweet things.
I'm lucky that living in London I have endless choice when it comes to eating out - local to me in South London two favourites are The Dairy and The Little Taperia. I love Barrafina, Som Saa, Kiln and Temper in Central London.
My current favourite city abroad for food is Lisbon - I've been the last three years, more recently with the children in tow too! It's a great place for a family city break. I love the pasteis de nata, the shellfish at Ramiro and the ginja sweet cherry liqueurs! The Ile de Ré is gorgeous (mouclade every day of the week!) and you can't go wrong with Spanish cities - what can be better than spending your days eating Padron peppers, anchovies, cheese and drinking sherry?!
